Performance
Depression or low mood can disturb your sleep and your appetite,
leave you fatigued, with a low libido and poor concentration: in
short, it affects your performance. Plenty of rest and relaxation,
regular exercise, avoiding excess alcohol and eating a balanced
healthy diet will all boost mood. Taking the herb St John’s
Wort or griffonia seed extract (5-HTP) can help lift a low mood
naturally.
Load
If your body mass index is over 25, you are overweight. If
it’s over 30, you are obese. Obesity contributes to heart
disease, diabetes, osteoarthritis and some cancers, to name but a
few of the health problems that may result. It also knocks an
average of nine years off a man’s life expectancy. Regular
exercise and a healthy low-fat, low-calorie diet is the best way of
maintaining a healthy weight.
Undercarriage
Regular testicular self-examination is essential. In the shower,
check for swelling, a pea-sized hard lump on the front or side of
the testicle, or a dull ache or sharp pain felt around the testicle
or in the scrotum. If you’re worried about something,
don’t ignore it: ask your doctor to check it out. The testes
don’t like smoking or too much alcohol or heat, but they do
like vitamins A, C and E, selenium and zinc to help keep them
healthy and producing sperm well.
Water system
Have a prostate check-up if passing urine more often
(particularly at night), difficulty getting going, stopping and
starting, or urgently needing to go sound familiar. It may mean the
prostate is enlarging - usually down to benign prostatic
hyperplasia (BPH) - which is common in men over forty. Ease
symptoms by reducing caffeine and alcohol intake and taking the
herb saw palmetto. Zinc is also needed for a healthy prostate
gland. Vitamin E, selenium and lycopene are believed to offer
prostate protection.
Pressure
High blood pressure doesn’t usually cause symptoms so get
it checked regularly. A diet low in fat, sugar and salt, plenty of
fruit and vegetables, regular exercise, cutting down on alcohol,
not smoking and reducing stress help to keep blood pressure down.
Omega 3 fish oils, garlic and co-enzyme Q10 also help to keep blood
pressure at a safe level.
Windscreen
Have your eye-sight tested every few years. Hidden eye-health
problems can also be detected during this examination. Omega 3 fish
oils, ginkgo and garlic can help keep the micro-circulation healthy
which is good for the eyes. Lutein is a good supplement for those
wishing to maintain healthy eyes: it has been shown to help prevent
age-related macular degeneration.
Over-revving
Keep your stress in check. It contributes to high blood
pressure, heart attacks, strokes, weakened immunity, recurrent
coughs, sore throats, muscle aches, poor concentration, insomnia,
anxiety and depression. Minimise stress by avoiding excess
caffeine, resting well, taking a valerian supplement before bed and
taking time to relax regularly.
