Rosehip has been used for thousands of years with the belief
that it possessed a wide variety of healing properties. More
recently however, it has become one of the most popular natural
supplements for joint health and has resulted in many customers
requesting it in our range. Therefore through popular demand, we
are pleased to announce the launch of Rose Hip.
Immortalized in literature as the ‘Queen of the
flowers’ in 600BC by the Greek poet Sappho, the rose has been
historically revered for its romantic attributes. It’s fruit
however has been used for centuries with the belief that it
possessed healing properties. In fact the species of rose
particularly valued for its hips, R. canina or dog rose,
was so-named because of the belief that it could cure the bite of a
rabid dog. But the Viking’s idea that helped them to remain
healthy is a little closer to the truth, as Rosehip’s high
content of vitamin C most likely help to ward off scurvy and
promote their vigor out on the seas.
In fact Rose hip is not only rich in vitamin C, but contains
vitamins A, B1, B2, B3 and vitamin K and for this reason, was
harvested nationwide in England during the Second World War. As
citrus products became scarce, school children were given rose hip
syrup to help compensate for any lack of vitamins in their rationed
diets.
Furthermore Rosehips are a rich source of fatty and volatile
oils, tannins and antioxidant compounds polyphenols and flavanoids,
especially noted for their anti-inflammatory properties.
It is no wonder then, that this rich source of nutrients has
found favour with those looking to maintain good joint health. Many
studies have been conducted to investigate the beneficial effects
of rosehip for those suffering from arthritis and it is fast
becoming one of the most popular nutritional supplements to partner
glucosamine for those concerned with the health of their joints as
they age.
