A recent study showed that a combination of anti-ageing
nutrients led to a significant decrease in all the normal measures
of ageing. The media dubbed it "an elixir of life". Read on to find
out more...
A couple of years ago, groundbreaking results from a study from
the University of California on a new combination of anti-ageing
nutrients were published. The results caused a huge amount of
interest among both the scientific community and the media and led
to the development of the anti-ageing product Lipo-Carn which has
since become one of our customers′ favourites.
As ageing is more of an issue that ever before, and so many of
you swear by Lipo-Carn as your daily anti-ageing investment, we
thought we′d take another look at this combination of
nutrients.
Professor Ames and his team at the University of California
discovered that a combination of alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) and
acetyl-l-carnitine (ALC) slowed all the normal measures of ageing
including memory and energy levels.
COMBINATION BENEFITS
The two nutrients used in the study occur naturally in the body
and have been available as dietary supplements for years. Each
substance has been studied extensively for its value in lessening
physical and mental deterioration associated with age; but it is
the action of the two substances in combination that has caused all
the excitement. Lipo-Carn is a combination of these two powerful
natural nutrients, at the tried and tested strengths. Clinical
trials into their combined effects are still ongoing. At
Healthspan, we wanted to offer it to customers straightaway because
noone needs to wait to slow down ageing!
WHAT IS ALPHA-LIPOIC ACID?
Historically, alpha-lipoic acid has been used for its powerful
antioxidant properties. It is believed to exert "free radical"
protection both inside and outside the cell. It is synthesised
naturally in the body, but is also found in foods such as spinach,
broccoli and liver. It has many other complex roles in the body
including the conversion of sugars into cellular energy.
WHAT IS ACETYL-L-CARNITINE?
Acetyl-l-carnitine is an amino acid that′s involved in
fatty acid transport into the "mitochondria" - the "power plants"
inside each of our cells. It is synthesised naturally in the body
and is believed to act by boosting the energising function of the
mitochondria inside each of our cells.
Up to 90% of the oxygen we breathe is used by the mitochondria.
They are the chief source of the production of cell damaging free
radicals in the body and are therefore often the first "victims".
As we age, the mitochondria are believed to be the "achilles heel"
for absorbing age related damage. Their loss of function is one
part of what we term ageing.
DOUBLE-ACTION LIPO-CARN
The combination of these two nutrients is still generating
excitement in the scientific world;- they seem to support each
other and their combined effects and benefits are magnified.
