Type Two Collagen is used to help to maintain a healthy joint structure and function.
Collagen is the primary protein in the body. There are many types of collagen protein throughout the body, the most widely researched types being Type I, II, and III. Types I & III are the major components of skin, hair, nails, muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, gums, teeth, eyes, and blood vessels. Whereas Type II is the major component of joint cartilage.
Cartilage is a connective tissue that holds body structures together. It is not as hard as bone, but nevertheless forms an important part of the skeletal structure. There are three basic types of cartilage. The most relevant to people suffering from joint pain is called Hyaline cartilage (or articular cartilage), which is the tough, smooth tissue that lines the surface of joints such as the knee, to provide an almost frictionless layer over the bony parts of the joint. All forms of cartilage are high in collagen, but Type II Collagen is the one needed for joint cartilage.
Our collagen is of chicken rather than bovine origin. It is extracted by a patented process, to produce low molecular weight collagen for maximum bioavailability.
