Ginkgo Biloba
The ginkgo biloba plant is a unique tree dating back nearly 300 million years and is the best example of a ‘living fossil’. Extracts from the leaves of the ginkgo contain flavonoid glycosides and ginkgolides and are commonly employed for their antioxidant properties and for the effect they have on circulation. It first found its way into medicinal literature in around 2800BC where it was mentioned by the pioneer of Chinese medicine Emperor Shen Nung.
