Formally known as 'Allium Sativum', garlic is related to the onion and other plants in the genus Allium. The bulb has been used for thousands of years for its therapeutic powers and has been associated with multiple benefits.

Garlic contains a valuable sulphur compound called alliin, which, when crushed and combined with the enzyme alliinase, forms the active ingredient allicin responsible for garlic's beneficial properties.
