Gemma is a Registered Dietitian with the Health and Care Professions Council and an Accredited Sports Dietitian with Sports Dietitians Australia. Originally from Sydney, Australia, Gemma has been based in Liverpool for 6 years working in a variety of settings, including clinically with the NHS, in food industry as well as being a freelance dietitian at Dietitian without Borders.
Gemma is currently researching nutritional implications for female athletes as part of an MSc in sports nutrition at Liverpool John Moores University. She is a national media spokesperson for the British Dietetic Association and writes regularly for a number of health and fitness publications.
Since developing her career as a sports dietitian, Gemma has worked with a variety of athletes, particularly focusing on nutrition for endurance sports, cycling, triathlon, female athletes, gluten-free and plant-based diets. She believes that boosting the nutritional quality of the diet can not only help athletes feel better, but also recover and perform better in their respective sports.
In her spare time, Gemma competes in triathlons, races time trials and can usually be found riding about on a bike, applying concepts of sports nutrition into applied practice.
