Proudest sporting moment: Achieving the ‘A’ standard for Commonwealth Games at the Welsh championships

Takes the following Healthspan Elite® supplements: 1,000iu Vitamin D3, Iron Complex, Zinc + Vitamin C , Magnesium Plus and High Strength Omega 3

Stephanie Owens is a weightlifter living in Flintshire, North Wales. Despite her young age Steph has been on an incredible sporting journey that has led to her selection for the Welsh Commonwealth Games Team competing in Glasgow in 2014.

Steph started her journey as a junior figure skater achieving international honours before making the unconventional switch to the hammer throw during her school years. With a natural propensity for strength sports, Steph went on to represent Wales before injury halted her progress.

“I had packed in my ice skating to concentrate on hammer throwing but picked up an injury and did not know where to go from there. I had always dreamt of competing in a major sporting competition such as the Commonwealth or Olympic Games but my dream seemed to be fading” Steph Said.

Sandwiched in between becoming the youngest ever contestant on the TV show Gladiators and being crowned Miss Flintshire, Steph was encouraged to take up weightlifting to aid in her recovery from injury. It was during this time that she was introduced to national coach Ray Williams. A month later Steph competed and won in the British Junior Championships.

Four years later, following success at the British Student Championships and becoming the British Under 23 champion, Steph has realised her dream in being selected to represent Wales at the Commonwealth Games.

We are proud to be working with Steph as a brand ambassador for Healthspan Elite®. She demystifies many of the stereotypes that often surround female sport, combining poise and power in equal measure. We are looking forward to a long relationship with Steph and to providing her with the nutrition support she needs to help her achieve her goals.

It’s not all been plain sailing. I started in 2010 and over the last four years I have been injured for about two of them. I had some dark days trying to get to the qualification total and at one point thought I would never get there. But I went to the Welsh Championships and realised my Commonwealth Games dream.
