Healthspan’s Head of Nutrition Rob Hobson says: “This refreshing lemonade is simple to make but packs a mighty health punch. The health benefits lie within the green tea, which is a rich source of compounds known as catechins and epicatechins that belong to a group of plant chemicals called flavonoids. Research has suggested that these chemicals may help to quell inflammation and lower LDL (bad) cholesterol, which could explain why regular tea drinkers have been shown to have a reduced risk of heart disease. Not only this but green tea also appears to help the body to absorb quercetin from foods such as broccoli, tomatoes, citrus fruits, berries and green leafy vegetables. This powerful antioxidant has been shown to help reduce inflammation and support the immune system; so not only is it perfect hydration for those hot, summer days – it’ll help keep you healthy too!”

Ingredients

  • 1 bag of green tea
  • 125ml boiling water
  • juice of 2 lemons plus the zest of one
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • crushed ice, to serve

Method

  1. Boil the water and pour over the green tea bag, allowing the tea to steep for 5 minutes.
  2. Remove the tea bag and allow the water to cool.
  3. When ready to served, mix together the cooled green tea, the lemon juice and zest, honey and 100ml of cold water in glass and mix together. Add crushed ice and a few lemon slices to garnish.
