Max Litchfield is a British International Swimmer currently based in Sheffield under the guidance of Coach Russ Barber.
He made his first international debut in 2012, making the European Juniors which took place in Antwerp, Belgium. A year later he made a 2nd junior team this time taking place in Poznan, Poland. At this meet Max qualified to compete at the World Juniors in Dubai where he became World Junior Champion as part of the 4x200 Freestyle Relay.
In 2013 Max moved to Sheffield from Doncaster DARTES to continue to build his career, swimming under the guidance of Russ Barber and training alongside some of the best swimmers in the country. The move paid off that next year when he made his first Senior International, qualifying for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on the 400m Individual Medley.
After missing out on a medal in Glasgow Max was out to make amends in the European Championships just a short few weeks later. Competing in the same event as in Glasgow he managed to swim a big PB and finish in 4th place in a time of 4.14.97.
In 2016 Max was determined to make the Olympic Games in Rio. Swimming at the Olympic Trials he managed to win the 400IM in a time of 4.12.05, sneaking under the automatic qualification time of 4.12.08 and securing his place in the Olympic Games.
Out in Rio Max swam another PB of 4.11.62, an English record and enough to clinch 4th at his first Olympic Games.
