The Scotland team: A potted history

A lifetime's worth of hard work and a healthy dose of raw talent are required to earn the right to represent the Scotland national team, and pull on the famous dark blue jersey.

Consistently ranked among the world's top ten teams, Scotland's national rugby team competes in the RBS 6 Nations, the Rugby World Cup, Autumn Tests and summer tours.

Playing at the world famous BT Murrayfield – the largest stadium in the country – Scotland has a rich rugby history dating back to the first international match, played against England at Raeburn Place in Edinburgh in 1871.

Since that day the nations have competed annually for the Calcutta Cup, now part of the annual RBS 6 Nations Championship.

Before its expansion to a six-team tournament, Scotland competed in the Five Nations from its 1883 inauguration, winning 14 tournaments and three Grand Slams along the way.

The Scotland team has competed in all seven Rugby World Cup competitions since its 1987 introduction, and has reached the quarter-finals on all but one occasion.

Healthspan and Scotland

Healthspan joined forces with Scottish Rugby in 2014, the same year that Head coach Vern Cotter took the reins of the national team.

That summer, Cotter led Scotland to three wins from four summer Test matches – against USA, Canada and Argentina. After a disappointing 2015 RBS 6 Nations, Scotland gathered steam in the Summer Tests, defeating Italy home and away, before winning three from four in the pool stages of Rugby World Cup 2015, and losing 35-34 to eventual finalists Australia in the most dramatic of quarter-finals.

The following year Scotland took their mounting confidence into the 2016 RBS 6 Nations, scoring a record 11 tries and 122 points for the country in the Championship, defeating Italy in Rome and France at home to finish fourth in the table. At the end of the 2015/16 domestic season Scotland will embark on a two-Test summer tour of Japan, and await the arrival of Australia, RWC semi-finalists, Argentina, and Georgia, in the 2016 Autumn Tests.

"We are really looking forward to working with the team at Healthspan Elite and integrating their products into our squads.  The brand is synonymous with quality which should be the cornerstone of all player’s diets and is a key principle of Scottish Rugby’s nutrition guidance.  A crucial feature of the brand is that all products are part of the Informed-Sport programme which tests nutritional supplements for the presence of banned substances – this is incredibly important to us as it provides significant protection to the players against inadvertent consumption of banned substances." – Richard Chessor, Lead Nutritionist, Scotland Rugby

Good nutrition is pivotal to performance and success in the modern game. I’m delighted to be working closely in partnership with Healthspan Elite as they have the perfect range of safe and effective nutritional supplements to help optimise the player’s diets and wellbeing.
