Put down the calorie counter and step away from the scales! Why eating as much fruit, veg and good fat is the new golden rule of weight loss…

1. You’ll lose the urge to cheat

Hit pause on the calorie calculator (and inevitably ‘miscalculating’ the numbers to make room for treats), and your urge to snack constantly will disappear if it’s not such a taboo.

2. You’ll learn to love food

The constant weighing, measuring, planning, and calculating that comes with calorie counting will make it hard for anyone to enjoy what they eat. But if you focus on building a plate of fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, pulses and protein to create a varied and balanced diet (without measuring out their portions!) you can feel confident that the food on your plate is good for you, no matter how much you eat.

3. You’ll have more energy

Calories are a measure of energy, and don’t forget: RDIs are there for a reason. Sure, cutting down from 2000 per day to 1500 might offer the promise of weight loss by limited amounts of pizza, but the quality of the food on your plate can leave you feeling tired.

When you limit your calories, they become precious. And we’ll be the first to admit that spending those kcals on treats is far more appealing than spending them on kale. But while it might seem that as long as you stick to your target number you’ll lose weight, choosing simple carbs, fatty or sugary foods will send you on a rollercoaster of energy highs and lows. The message is simple: eat when your body tells you to, but make the right choice.

But won’t I put on weight if I don’t monitor my calories?

NO! As long as you make smart, healthy choices, you can enjoy as much food as you like without putting weight on. In fact, you’re more likely to lose weight, explains Jackie Wicks.

The Cheats and Eats system helps reduce the "mind stress" of counting calories. Because you don't need to eat fewer calories, you need MORE EATS.

The simple, powerful idea is that when you increase your Eats, the Cheats become less of a problem.

Not only do Cheats become less of a problem, they become tasty indulgences that you have EARNED.

Nothing beats a healthy, balanced diet to provide all the nutrients we need. But when this isn't possible, supplements can help. This article isn't intended to replace medical advice. Please consult your healthcare professional before trying supplements or herbal medicines.
