Founded in 1885 and recognised as a forward-thinking Premier League Football club, Southampton FC has an established reputation for being one of the strongest in producing world-class talent through its successful academy.
The world’s most expensive player, Gareth Bale, joined the likes of Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and even greats such as, Matt Le Tissier and Alan Shearer to have come through Saints’ impressive youth system.
This ethos has become even more of a focus point in recent years with the likes of James Ward-Prowse, Harrison Reed and Matt Targett to have pulled on the red and white stripes in the Barclays Premier League this season.
Enhancing the ability of their players, from youth team to first team through individual training and nutrition regimes is part of Southampton’s DNA and is admired throughout football.
With the recent £33 million investment into creating the state-of-the-art Staplewood Campus training ground and a Nutrition Partner such as Healthspan Elite on board Southampton FC are in a better position than ever to optimise its players’ performance.
With these enhancements in place, the future of the Saints – a nickname that stems from its formation in 1885 by members of St. Mary’s Church Young Men’s association – looks very bright as the club is almost unrecognisable from where it was several seasons ago.
The club faced one of its toughest times in 2009 when it was sent into administration and fell to the third tier of English football. When everything looked bleak, businessman Markus Liebherr stepped in to buy Saints and rescued the club from the unthinkable.
With the support of the late Markus Liebherr and now his daughter Katharina Liebherr - who took the reigns when her father passed away in 2010 – the club has risen through the leagues at an unprecedented rate to return to the Premier League in 2012 and currently sits in the Champions League places.
To date, Southampton’s greatest achievement remains winning the 1976 FA Cup when Saints overcame the odds to record a sensational 1-0 victory over overwhelming favourites Manchester United. However, the club’s ambition for future trophies has no limit as the Liebherr-owned chapter has all the makings to develop into the strongest and most exciting of them all.
‘For Healthspan Elite to be chosen as Southampton’s Official Vitamin Supplier is testament to our gold quality standards – we are privileged to be supporting this exciting chapter in their history. With the emphasis placed on improving players’ performance through pioneering training and nutrition methods, Southampton FC is the perfect football partner for us. We look forward to a long standing and mutually beneficial relationship which will place advancements in football nutrition at the heart of everything we do.’ Chris Fisher – Head of Healthspan Elite
