Sky high

Brian, 72, skydives for the Prostate Cancer charity.

As a father of two, grandfather of 2 and with 37 years’ service in the RAF, Brian has plenty to be proud of! And he can now add a successful parachute jump to his long list of achievements - although ultimately, he found it an intensely enjoyable experience: “That’s it, I’m hooked. I’m an adrenaline junkie.” Brian said soon afterwards, “We came out of the plane at 10,000 feet into clear skies and I could see the whole of Cornwall below me - from Land’s across to St Michael’s Mount and up to Newquay and Truro. It was incredible.”

Who did Brian fundraise for?

When it came to picking a charity to support, Brian’s choice was an easy one. A blood test for a thyroid problem two years ago showed tell-tale signs of prostate cancer. “I was dead lucky it got spotted quickly - I had, and have had, no other symptoms” said Brian. Regular tests with the wonderful staff at the Oncology Department of Treliske Hospital are monitoring the symptoms with Active Surveillance and Brian is hoping the condition stays static and aims to keep it that way through an active and healthy lifestyle, which includes a daily smoothie made of broccoli, watercress, watermelon and cooking apple.

The Healthspan Connection

Brian has been a Healthspan customer ever since his doctor recommended that he try glucosamine - a suggestion that he’s found extremely beneficial. Alongside that he takes kelp and co-enzyme Q10, both of which help to keep our fundraising daredevil in good health. In fact, in good enough health to be planning his next jump already! “But you won’t catch me doing a bungee jump” he said.
