Emma Shackell, 20 year old event rider from Bristol. Currently studying to become a Human and Equine Bowen Therapist.
I currently compete my 7 year old 15.3hh ex race horse that I purchased 4 years ago from ascot sales. We had our difficulties to start with, during the first 2 years I couldn't get Alan to leave the start box or jump round a course of jumps as a result of his tantrums I suffered an accident where I broke my back! After a long couple of years of perseverance we came out the other side stronger than I ever could have imagined.
He has recently evented up to 1* level, jumping clear round Gatcombe CIC1* and double clear Aldon CIC* placing 15th. Alan has jumped clear and been placed BSJA up to and including foxhunters! It is such an amazing feeling to have produced an 'underdog' who is now a very special and talented horse. We have had some fantastic results jumping at novice level and I am really excited for our future! I intend to take Alan up through the levels starting with Tattersalls CCI* at the beginning of the season with the aim to compete at 2* by the end of the season.
