      Description

What are Calcium and Vitamin D?

Calcium is a mineral needed for the maintenance of normal bones and teeth and must be absorbed from the foods we eat. To fully absorb and utilise calcium, we need Vitamin D. We all understand the importance of feeding children milk for its calcium content, but calcium is needed in larger amounts as we grow older due to a loss of bone mineral density. Known as the 'sunshine vitamin', Vitamin D is found in small amounts in food, but the majority (90 per cent) is made by the body on exposure to UVB sunlight. Vitamin D is vital for healthy bones, teeth and muscles. What's more Public Health England recommends vitamin D supplements should be taken by all.

      Why choose Healthspan's Calcium & Vitamin D?

We created a high strength formulation that is suitable for anyone, and especially ideal for women over 50 as it can help to reduce the loss of bone mineral linked to menopause. Low bone mineral density is a risk factor for osteoporotic bone fractures.* Athough there are different sources of calcium, we make our chewable tablets only from calcium carbonate as this form gives you the purest calcium. We also use natural source vitamin D3 as this is the form that is naturally found in our bodies. Even better, this supplement also contains vitamin K1 which is proven to maintain bone health.

*For women 50 years and older. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of at least 1200 mg of calcium and 20 µg of vitamin D.
