    Description

    What are plant sterols?

Our high-strength Plant Sterols tablets offer a natural and effective way to support healthy cholesterol levels. Plant sterols work by blocking the absorption of LDL (“bad”) cholesterol in the gut, helping to lower its levels in the bloodstream.

The term “plant sterols” comes from their origin and structure: they’re found naturally in fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, and seeds (plant), and they closely resemble the cholesterol produced by our bodies (sterols). This similarity is what allows them to compete with dietary cholesterol for absorption - reducing the amount that enters your system.

While the NHS encourages eating more plant-based foods to help manage cholesterol, typical diets only provide around 160-400 mg of plant sterols per day. According to the British Heart Foundation, you need 2,000-2,500 mg daily for a significant cholesterol-lowering effect - something that’s difficult to achieve through diet alone.

Why choose Healthspan's Plant Sterols 800 mg tablets?

Due to the similarity to cholesterol, these plant sterols tablets can stop the cholesterol in the things you eat being absorbed in the small intestine. As a result, plant sterols can keep your cholesterol levels at a normal level, or even better, help lower your blood cholesterol and therefore reduce the risk in the development of coronary heart disease, a major cause of death in the UK according to the NHS.

With just 2-3 tablets per day, you can reach the recommended daily intake of 2,000-2,500 mg as advised by the British Heart Foundation, helping to maintain normal cholesterol levels and reduce your long-term risk of coronary heart disease.

    Who is this for?

Plant Sterols are ideal for anyone looking to naturally manage high cholesterol and support heart health. For added benefits, pair with our Artichoke which helps increase the body’s natural cholesterol elimination via bile, making them the perfect partners for maintaining a healthy cholesterol balance.

For an optimal solution, try our NEW Plant Sterols Plus, delivering the full 2400 mg of plant sterols, plus potassium for support normal blood pressure and Oli-Ola™ olive extract.

1 Plant sterols have been shown to lower/reduce blood cholesterol, with a daily intake of 1500 mg - 3000 mg plant sterols. High cholesterol is a risk factor in the development of coronary heart disease.

2 Plant sterols contribute to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels, with a daily intake of at least 800 mg plant sterols.

    Plant Sterols Tablets

Plant Sterols are available in a large pack size of 90 tablets, and are individually blister-packed for optimum freshness. Each tablet can be easily popped through the foil when required.

Every tablet contains 800mg plant sterols, allowing you to tailor your dose from one tablet a day (to maintain cholesterol levels) to a maximum of three tablets for a daily dose of 2,400mg (to lower blood cholesterol in as little as 2-3 weeks.)

Plant Sterols 800mg are suitable for vegetarians and vegans, and do not contain the calories and fat found in sterol-enriched margarine or dairy produce.

    When to take Plant Sterols

Like all supplements, plant sterols need to be taken regularly in order to benefit your health and lower cholesterol levels effectively.

For the best results, they should be taken with food – ideally at mealtimes. If you only take one tablet a day, take it with your main meal; otherwise, research suggests that taking plant sterols up to three times a day rather than in one large dose will provide the maximum benefit.

This is because of how plant sterols work in the body – competing with cholesterol for absorption in the intestine. As well as blocking cholesterol obtained directly from our diet, plant sterols also inhibit the reabsorption of cholesterol that is made in the liver.

As a result, less cholesterol makes it way into the bloodstream, and more is removed from the body through the intestine.

    The Benefits of Plant Sterols

Maintaining normal cholesterol levels reduces the risk of various cardiovascular diseases, including high blood pressure, heart attack and stroke, which is why Plant Sterols are a popular heart health supplement.

Plant sterols are found naturally in nuts, seeds, fruit, and vegetables, so it is possible to increase your intake through diet. However, sterols in plant foods are naturally bound to fibre, which limits their action, while those found in supplements are more available to the body. Plant Sterols tablets also ensure a consistent daily sterols dose.

The best approach for healthy cholesterol is therefore to maintain a healthy diet alongside the use of Plant Sterols tablets.
