Bad skincare habits

Latest articles

One of the best ways to keep skin healthy and fight off the signs of ageing is to start by breaking some bad habits.

Using dirty make-up brushes

Washing make-up brushes might seem like a tedious task, however if you never do this then you could end up with clogged pores and infections which are much harder to resolve. One night, every couple of weeks simply soak your brushes and lather with some shampoo then leave them to dry ready for the morning.

Picking the wrong products

Using products that don't fit with your skin type is a very common mistake. Many of us stick to the same products for years but as we age it can be worthwhile to use products with more active ingredients. Finding a range for your skin needs is easy and don't fear change as it can have rewarding results.

Super hot showers

If you're anything like us then you love nothing more than a long, hot shower. Unfortunately this prolonged heat can strip away the natural oils in the skin so that it is left dry and scaly. Turn down the heat and try to step out before skin starts to go red.

Not washing your face at night

Night time is the absolute worst time to leave make-up and dirt on the skin as your body temperature rises whilst you sleep so whatever is on the surface gets absorbed. Make sure you wash your face before bed and give your skin the chance to absorb beneficial ingredients from your moisturiser instead.

Neglecting your eyes

The skin around your eyes is very thin so needs more delicate care. Don't rub skin too hard as this gives the risk of breaking delicate blood vessels leading to darkening. Skipping your annual appointment with opticians is also a no-no, wearing ineffective glasses or contacts will cause you to squint leading to unnecessary fines lines and wrinkles.

Neglecting your hands

Very often skincare focus can be on the face, but the rest of our bodies require the same care too. Our hands are one of the hardest-working parts of the body, they spend all day doing tasks such as washing dishes or gardening and are constantly exposed to environmental influences which ultimately has an effect on their condition. Moisturise your hands after every hand wash to restore them back to perfect health.
