Staying active in retirement

Living in a small village near Whitehaven in the Lake District, with the fells on their doorstep and Ennerdale Water a stone’s throw away, Claudia and her husband, Steve, 69, are spoilt for choice when it comes to where to stride out on their daily walks. But one thing threatened to spoil their long rambles.

‘I twisted my knee and tore a ligament some years ago, which left me uncomfortable, especially on longer walks, I’d have to stop regularly before I can carry on.’

Why collagen?

A psychologist by training, Claudia had always been proactive about her health. ‘I was already taking ChondroMax and other Healthspan supplements, so when I came across Super Strength Marine Collagen Complex, I decided to try it in the hope that it might help,’ she explains.

Many people like Claudia are turning to collagen to help them stay active. The most common protein in the body, collagen provides the structure, strength, and elasticity to keep your body moving.

Super Strength Marine Collagen contains a blend of Type I and Type II collagen. Type I is most associated with skin, bone and connective tissue, while Type II is found naturally in cartilage and helps cushion the joints. Healthspan’s formulation also includes copper, manganese and vitamin C, nutrients that support normal collagen formation* and help maintain healthy joints, bones and connective tissue**, all working together to support where it matters most.

Noticing the difference

Within just four weeks, Claudia noticed a striking difference. ‘I felt a real improvement in my joints,’ she says. ‘I could enjoy long walks without having to stop. I was even able to do light jogging to improve my strength and endurance.’

The benefits have lasted and even Claudia’s husband has noticed them. ‘Before he used to have to stop and wait for me. Now we can keep going,’ she says. The couple often walk between 10 and 14 miles across the fells, including favourites like Crag Fell and Blake Fell.

A simple daily habit

Claudia takes one tablet a day, usually with her elevenses or lunch. ‘It couldn’t be easier and it suits my system,’ she says.

There have been other potential bonuses, with the added support from vitamin C in the formulation, which helps to maintain healthy skin*. ‘I’m genetically blessed and lucky that I don’t look my 68 years. Of course, I can’t say for sure that’s the collagen, as I also take the nails and hair tablets, but even my hairdresser says that my hair is stronger.’

Three years after putting in her first order for Super Strength Marine Collagen Claudia is still impressed, and now buys on subscription to make sure she always has some on hand and saves money over the year (Healthspan’s Subscribe and Save service for just 27p a day).

‘I’m very pleased with it and will continue taking it. I want to stay active and keep walking as long as I can and it helps me do that.’

*Formulated with added Vitamin C, which contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin.
**Copper contributes to the normal formation of connective tissue and manganese contributes to the maintenance of normal bones.
