Lisa’s story
Keen walker Lisa Ketley, 74, always made sure she knew exactly where the nearest toilets were before setting off with her walking group in case she needed to ‘go’.
The former hairdresser and beauty salon owner from Wallington first experienced stress incontinence, the involuntary leakage that can happen when you jump, laugh or cough, around 25 years ago... and Lisa is not alone. A recent UK study found that 44% of adults experience incontinence, and 59% of female respondents over 55 experience urinary issues*.
When things got worse
After a bladder prolapse and a hysterectomy about ten years ago, however, things took a turn for the worse. As well as her existing stress incontinence Lisa developed an overactive bladder, when you leak urine as a result of a sudden, ultra-urgent need to urinate.
Lisa, who is married, loves Nordic walking and belongs to a couple of groups, heading out three times a week. ‘It really impacted my life,’ she says. ‘I had to make sure I went to the loo before we set out and carried pads with me for extra security. I drink a lot of water, but I had to stop a couple of hours before bed, otherwise I would have been up and down all night.’
At first, Lisa tried pelvic floor exercises, but like many women found it hard to remember them consistently, and unfortunately other treatments had intermittent effects.
Why Bladder Support?
It was then she decided to try Bladder Support. A lifelong vegan who as well as her Nordic walking does yoga and pilates, Lisa has nothing but praise for Healthspan’s Bladder Support. ‘It has helped ease my bladder discomfort. The best thing is I no longer have to fret about where the nearest toilet is,’ she says.
Healthspan’s Bladder Support is specifically formulated to provide nutritional support for healthy bladder function. The added vitamin D** contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function, while vitamin B6** contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity, and Go-Less® Pumpkin Seed and Soy Germ Extract support the maintenance of good bladder function and urinary flow.
Back to enjoying life
Lisa continues to be passionate about Nordic walking, and can now look forward to getting out and about with her friends, as well as feeling confident she’ll get a better nights sleep at the end of the day. With Lisa saying ‘I’d advise anyone with an overactive bladder to give it a go’.
