John’s story

Retired engineer and former IT consultant John Westbury, 80, from Alveley, Shropshire, has never been one to sit still for long. He only gave up consultancy work last year. But in 2019, persistent joint pain started to make everyday life harder.

“It was classic bone-on-bone pain. I’d get spasms of discomfort in my wrists,” he recalls. “Sometimes it eased off, but it never really disappeared. I couldn’t even rest my wrists on a surface properly.”
